The twenty third (XXIII) is the most famous of the Psalms. In this piece, there are 3 pairs of sheep and 3 traditional animal forms. At the bottom, the lion represents guardianship and spiritual strength. The gazelle symbolizes love & grace. At the top, an ornamented eagle, ancient symbol of divine protection, encircles the opening words, written by David over 3,000 years ago, "Meeh-zmor L'Dah-veed" ("a hymn by David").
